Food supply with low greenhouse gas emissions on the organic (biodynamic) farm Zlata misli (master farm for the practice of students of Organic Agriculture).
Food is more than just what we eat. Its production causes greenhouse gas emissions and has many effects on the state of the environment - so it is important how and with what food we are supplied. In Slovenia, we have the opportunity to do this in a more environmentally and climate-friendly way, while taking care of our health and supporting local producers.
In Umanotera, they present the fourth product in a series of short films promoting good greenhouse gas reduction practices, which they are preparing as part of the CARE4CLIMATE project. This time the chosen good practice comes from the field of food supply; in it they represent the ecological and biodynamic farm Zlate misli from Jareninski Dol. On a family farm, they have been showing for many years how farms can increase their resilience to climate and other shocks by opting for organic farming and establishing partnerships with end customers. In addition, they also prove that decisive changes on the way to a climate-neutral society are possible and practically feasible! Organic farming is a key strategy for adapting to climate change, while supporting the achievement of agricultural policy objectives (25% of agricultural land under organic farming by 2030) and other objectives (biodiversity, sustainable rural development, transition to a low-carbon society).
See how the Golden Thoughts farm reduces its greenhouse gas emissions and at the same time increases its resistance to extreme weather events in the video at the link . The Zlata misli organic farm is run by dr. Matjaž Turinek and dr. Maja Turinek - both are former students and doctoral students of FKBV and they can also be students of the Organic Agriculture program.
