On 4 November, EUA and two dozen other networks and associations published a letter to the European Commission voicing the united wish of the European knowledge sector for the UK to associate to the Horizon Europe programme. This follows an October statement from EUA and its collective members, the national rectors conferences, regarding association of the UK to Horizon Europe.
The letter stresses that Horizon Europe must not become a political bargaining chip in the current disagreements between the EU and the UK over the implementation of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement. UK association to Horizon Europe is important for all of Europe and researchers, innovators and research performing organisations have been assured by both sides that they would continue to work together across the Channel. This promise has to be kept.
In order to reassure the community, the letter calls for a timeline for fast association of the UK as the first grant agreements in Horizon Europe are approaching and new calls will come out soon.
